Safety & Equipment
1) We will review safety prior to the start of the event. While there is water close to the gyms at both HCC and MPCC, please bring fluids or snacks as needed. You can take a quick minute anytime during a game for water/fluids.
2) Bring appropriate footwear, if not, you cannot participate.
3) We have enough room for a row of people to watch at the back of both sides of the gym, however the rest of the space should be for the players. If you are a spectator or waiting in between games, please be aware of your surroundings.
4) At HCC, the walls are tight along court 1 and 4. If there is a shot, such as a serve that goes out wide, and you are able to make a PLAY on the ball however the wall impedes you, replay the point. If you had no play on the ball, no replay on the point. Let exercise some sportsmanship and make the best call possible. The call whether or not the ball is playable or not is determined by the player trying to make a play on that ball. Once a ruling has been made, the call stands. Let’s proceed that the call was made with the best of intentions.
5) Balls onto the court- please stop play immediately- call ball, the play stops immediately. If a ball rolls along the back of the court along the wall, please continue to play. This ball is not on the court and does not impact play in the court.
If your balls has rolled behind another court, please wait for play to stop before walking behind the court as you could be a visual distraction. This applies to spectators as well or for players moving towards their court- wait for a rally to complete before moving through.
Rules & Format
The format of the tournament will be group stage round robin, for seeding purposes, then a double knock draw- win out for gold in the upper half of the draw; one loss and win out for bronze in the lower bracket. All games are win by 1 point- so hard capped.
- round robin- games to 9
- upper bracket first round- games to 9
- upper bracket QF, SF- games to 11
- lower bracket, all games- games to 9
- Bronze medal- 1 game to 15
- Gold medal- best 2 out of 3 games to 11 points
(dependent on time, may switch to 1 game to 15)
There are no time outs in any of the games with exception to the bronze and gold medal games where each team would receive one per game.
Home teams and road teams will be allocated. Home teams will always start on one side announced at the beginning of the tournament. The home team will always serve first.
In the knock out stages, the home team will always be the higher seed.
Only in the Bronze and Gold medal games, we will determine by a flip for serve, receive, choice of end or to defer. Both these games will be refereed as well.
We will be playing with an orange Onix Fuse ball. For those that prefer a different colour, a yellow ball will be offered. If one individual prefers orange and another yellow, please discuss amongst yourselves, otherwise a flip of a coin will determine this.
Withdrawal
If you require to withdraw, as there is a waiting list, please let us know as soon as possible. If possible, please find a replacement for yourself.
